The school's recent Ofsted report can be found at http://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/ and by entering URN 115685. We are pleased with the result. Ofsted praises the behaviour of pupils, the well-planned curriculum, the outdoor learning opportunities and relationships between staff and pupils. They go on to rate the Headteacher's drive for improvement, the Governors' shared vision for the school, the quality of teaching and learning, and pupils' progress. Areas for development include the use of questioning to check understanding in the Early Years, and to further increase progress in maths. It was pleasing to see that Ofsted thought that 'the school's Christian ethos makes a strong contribution to pupils' social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.'
We are very fortunate to have willing parents and carers who volunteer their time to assist in school on a regular basis. Chatterbooks Club is an excellent example. We have two new weekly clubs running at the moment, both led by volunteers, which means that the children benefit enormously. A big thank you to all those who help out in school, whether it is for a maths lesson, listening to readers, sprucing up the playground or supporting through FHS. What a difference you make!
The core content of the curriculum for maths, english and science has been added to the website under Parents - Horsley Curriculum - Core Subjects. This will be useful if you wish to help your child with their learning in a specific area. Links are available for each year group so that you can see exactly what the expectations are for your child. Files can also be downloaded from here. A useful document on maths vocabulary has also been added to the Mathematics section. It can be accessed here.
