The core content of the curriculum for maths, english and science has been added to the website under Parents - Horsley Curriculum - Core Subjects. This will be useful if you wish to help your child with their learning in a specific area. Links are available for each year group so that you can see exactly what the expectations are for your child. Files can also be downloaded from here. A useful document on maths vocabulary has also been added to the Mathematics section. It can be accessed here.
It was a pleasure taking six lucky Y5 children to Birmingham today to see the Science Big Bang exhibition. The children were treated to many hands-on science and technology activities including building a bridge from wooden rods, extracting DNA from a fruit mixture, making a simple motor, taking part in an engineering quiz and watching a 3D printer at work. They enjoyed seeing the presenter's hair stand up on end in the Van-der-Graaf generator demonstration and also finding out how the first light bulbs were made. The highlight had to be a giant model of a jet-propelled car completely made of Knex. A brilliant day with many memories of science in action.
