Maths Rationale

At Horsley Primary School we are developing Mathematicians who can face challenges with resilience and determination. We aim to ensure that our pupils develop a secure knowledge of the subject that they can then apply to real life scenarios and problems.

Mathematics is enjoyed in a variety of ways at Horsley Primary School. We follow the National Curriculum for Mathematics throughout the school and this is taught through engaging lessons that include opportunities for reasoning and problem solving.

​Maths is taught daily through a mastery approach to learning. This is taught to a split year group and supported by smaller guided group teaching where needed. We also explore Maths in other subjects, such as Science, where we can apply our skills in a practical context, deepening our understanding of mathematical concepts.​
