The principal aim of religious education is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.

Religious Education (RE) Rationale
As a Church of England School, Religious Education (RE) is one of the core subjects studied at Horsley. Across the school, from Reception to Year 6, we use the Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus. The syllabus charts a pathway of exploration, giving the opportunity to study key themes in Christianity as well as the other key religions, such as Islam and Judaism.
The syllabus provides children with the opportunity to engage with big questions relevant to the world we live in: What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today? What do religions say to us when life gets hard? Creation and Science: Conflicting or Complementary? At Horsley Primary School first hand exploration underpins learning and so visits and visitors are an integral part of the children’s learning about religion and developing understanding and respect for the beliefs of others.
