Mary Myatt says
‘Writing is slow and it is difficult. But when pupils are supported and guided through the writing process carefully, the product of writing is likely to reflect what they really understand.’

Our Vision for Writing

Our vision is to ignite a passion for English in every child, empowering them with the skills and knowledge to communicate effectively, read widely, and think critically. We are committed to providing a comprehensive and inclusive English curriculum that develops reading, writing, grammar, spelling and oracy skills. We aim to foster a love of writing and a deep understanding of language by exposing students to a rich and diverse range of genres. We believe in nurturing every child's ability to articulate ideas, express creativity, and thoughtfully engage with the world in written and oral forms.

Our HOT Writes are at the heart of our writing curriculum. Children must have a purpose and are immersed in the writing experience. The HOT Writes allow our children to showcase their learning in an independent piece of writing.

Spelling

Picture
Spelling Shed's approach to spelling involves the relationship between sounds and written symbols as well as using morphology to help spell through meaning. The carefully selected word lists and engaging activities provide opportunities to incorporate phonics and meaning to strengthen spelling skills and build vocabulary acquisition.
Picture
Our weekly spelling competition, "In It to Win It', inspires children to learn their spellings and to use them accurately in their writing. Children are entered into the prize draw on successfully reaching full marks in their spelling test.
